1. Export Haulage:
Moving products from the origin company to the freight forwarder’s warehouse, typically by truck. Alternative transportation modes may be chosen based on product type and distance.
2. Export Customs Clearance:
Ensuring products comply with legal and safety requirements before leaving their origin country. Customs agents verify paperwork and legality, often managed by specialized customs brokers employed by freight forwarders.
3. Origin Handling:
Unloading goods at the warehouse, inspecting for accuracy and condition to ensure they meet destination country requirements. Freight forwarding teams also assess any restrictions or special handling needs.
4. Import Customs Clearance:
Goods undergo customs clearance upon arrival in the destination country. Customs agents verify legality and paperwork, with import fees typically handled initially by the freight forwarder and billed to the shipper later.
5. Destination Arrival and Handling:
After clearing import customs, a transportation provider chosen by the forwarder gathers necessary paperwork, inspects and loads the shipment for transport to the import warehouse.
6. Import Haulage:
Transporting goods from the import warehouse to their final destination, chosen based on product type and transportation distance, similar to export haulage considerations.
